Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some commonly asked questions can be found here.

Q. Which electronic files can I send for my job?

A. We can work with files generated with Adobe software - Illustrator, PhotoShop, PageMaker, InDesign; also QuarkXpress, Macromedia Freehand, most Microsoft programs and others - email us with specific questions about your project.

Q. How can I send files?

A. Send files on floppy disk, 100 mb Zip disks, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and email. If sending by email your files should be stuffed or zipped to insure integrity of data. ALL JOBS MUST INCLUDE: Linked or imported graphics and/or photos and the fonts used in the job.

Q. Do I need to send a copy of the work I want printed?

A. Yes, if possible. Separations and color composite laser prints should be provided or faxed. We can generate and fax proofs to you upon request.

10 simple tips for getting the best possible results for your printed job.

1. Include a proof of the most recent version of your job. A proof shows us how you expect your job to look. When possible send a color laser at 100%. If your proof is not at 100%, please indicate that on the proof.

2. Clearly indicate crops and final trim size when you order your job.

3. If your job has bleeds, include a 1/8 inch bleed outside the crops when you set up your file. Any image or color that runs to the edge of the sheet must bleed.

4. Remember to account for gripper, especially where you have full bleed. A minimum 3/8 inch is needed for the gripper where there will be no ink printed on the sheet.

We can work with most common desktop publishing and page layout programs.

5. Include all fonts used with your job. Even fonts with the same name may vary from system to system and while we maintain an extensive font library, please include the fonts you used on you job in order to ensure that it prints correctly.

6. Include all linked images used in the job.

7. Scan at the proper resolution for printing. Keep your scan as close as possible to final image size and between 250 and 300 dpi. Convert your image to CYMK before placing it in your file.

8. Include a folding dummy or sample of how your job will back up. Unless your job prints one side without folding, supplying a mock-up will greatly facilitate the proper production of your printed piece.

9. Create your job with the correct color type. Spot colors can be specified for offset jobs. For digital color and 4/C Process work, build your job using CYMK. Never use RGB for print work.

10. Avoid using word processing programs, Microsoft Publisher or Powerpoint for creating jobs for 4-color printing. These programs work fine for desktop output, but do not handle CYMK color separations well. If you have a question about the program you use to create your jobs, please call us.
